About the artwork

This work almost makes you feel the impact: a collision full of power, speed and emotion, captured in one explosive moment. Two roller derby jammers get caught up in a wild crash. A roller skate even flies through the air. One makes a hard fall, the other looks with terror in his eyes. In the background, you can see confusion, panic AND teammates trying to hold their lines.

The colours used are rough and earthy. Beige as a base, accented with bright accents like pink in the hair, yellow on the laces, blue on the wheels. The rough lines and grainy texture of chalk and pencil give it a raw, direct energy. The drawing looks like it was scribbled down in pure adrenaline at the moment.

This wall decoration is a must-have for those who dare to fall, and get up even harder.

Roller derby is a fast-paced, physical team sport played on roller skates (quads) on an oval track. Two teams of five players each compete against each other in short rounds of play, called "jams".
Each team has one "jammer" (identified by a star on its helmet) who can score points by overtaking opponents on the track. The other players are "blockers" and try to help their own jammer and stop the opponent's jammer. This is done by strategic pushing, blocking and positioning.
The sport is intense, tactical and spectacular, with a strong sense of community and often a distinctive, punk-like culture surrounding it. It is mainly played by women, but there are also mixed and men's matches.
