The light falling precisely on the village among the mountains is truly spectacular.
Madeira has several beautiful mountain villages, such as Curral das Freiras (Valley of the Nuns) in a hidden valley known for chestnuts and traditional atmosphere, São Vicente in a green valley in the north with an impressive coastal route and volcanic caves, and Santana, famous for its iconic triangular houses. Other options include rugged cliff-side Achadas da Cruz or picturesque Jardim do Mar, each with a unique atmosphere and spectacular mountain and ocean views.
