This intuitive portrait emerged layer by layer. First a wild base of acrylic paint, roughly laid down with the palette knife. Combing, scratching, sliding - the canvas took on relief as if the paint itself took control. India ink flowed in between, searching for unexpected paths.
Splotches of dried paint from my palette found a new home: chunks of texture stuck to her hair, her skin, her background. As if scraps of paint refused to be forgotten. Above them came soft but bright highlights with oil pastels - stripes, lines and smudges that gave warmth and depth. This created a play between rough and soft, between structure and flowing energy.
Her eyes were suddenly there. Black outlined, full of blue and white, inescapable. They look at you, asking nothing but telling everything. Her lips bright red, her cheeks glowing. The fire in her hair burns with the rhythm of red, pink and orange.
