Oil paint was used to create this intense seascape: The blue contrasts with the ochre in the foreground. The clouds hang above the waves as if echoing. The sun is not visible but the red in the foreground and background hint at the warmth of the light.
For some time, I have been planning to depict clouds, sea and wind with oil paint. For this painting, I chose a small wooden panel (28x20 cm) that I first treated with gesso. The sea is depicted frontally, but because of the runaway coastline, the image still evokes depth and movement.
Time and again, the North Sea coast inspires me: every day, every hour, the light is different and the waves are different in character: sometimes calm and flat, but often fierce and noisy.
The painting almost evokes a mystical atmosphere because of the different shades of blue, white, red and ochre.
