The weir in the Rhine at Driel. In the major rivers weirs are built not only to prevent dehydration of higher elevations, but also to ensure minimum water levels for year-round navigation. Moreover, weirs are built to control water flows. This weir, built in the Rhine, mainly serves to transport water from the Rhine via the IJssel to the IJsselmeer.
