This finch has been scurrying around my garden all winter, looking for tasty morsels. Finches are common in the Netherlands, found in forests, parks and gardens. The male is conspicuous for his orange breast, and the female may be mistaken for a sparrow.
This finch was made with pastel chalk on pastel paper. The coarse texture of the paper holds the chalk.
Much of my childhood was spent in the forest near my parents' cottage. There, my love for birds, the forest animals and the rustling wind in the trees was born. The forest is still a place I love to visit, I immediately feel relaxed, can breathe.. Read more…
