The Timberline Lodge is a rustic lodge on the south flank of Mount Hood in the U.S. state of Oregon, about 100 km east of Portland.
The lodge was built in the late 1930s as a Works Progress Administration project, at an elevation of 1817 feet in the Mount Hood National Forest. The Timberline Lodge, erected in the rustic architecture of the National Park Service, has been recognized as a National Historic Landmark. The building is a popular tourist destination and receives more than one million visitors annually. In addition, the lodge enjoys fame as the filming location of the Overlook Hotel in The Shining.
Timberline Lodge is also the name of the ski area located on the south flank of Mount Hood, around the lodge. The ski area has 7 elevators and 35 ski runs. Timberline Lodge is the only ski area in North America that offers year-round skiing.
