Traces of mineral pigments – Yellowstone

by Frank Schröter Photography

Dark streams of water wind their way between golden-orange deposits and light-coloured mineral surfaces in Yellowstone National Park. The light highlights small edges, irregular borders and subtle variations in the surface. This close-up view focuses on the interplay of water, colour and texture. A vast landscape horizon recedes into the background; the shapes of the ground define the image.

The curved lines guide the eye through the photograph. Warm shades of orange and ochre glow amidst deep browns and blacks. Light areas provide calm contrasts and allow the dark watercourses to stand out particularly clearly. From a distance, the subject appears as an abstract arrangement of colour fields. On closer inspection, the many small details of the natural surface become visible. This photograph by Frank Schröter has been individually developed and retouched. It shows Yellowstone from a perspective that draws the eye to the traces of geothermal water. As a wall hanging, this image is ideal for rooms where warm colours and natural textures are to take centre stage.
