At The Hague (Bezuidenhout) is a very special tram/semi-metro station build, in fact the most beautiful tramstation of Holland. It was, because of its construction very soon called "De Netkous" (Fishnet Stocking).
"De Netkous" is in fact a overpass combined with two stations. The station is designed by Zwarts & Jansma Architects and is operational since 2007.
The overpass is built up of an open tubular structure, which makes an associations with the structure of a mesh sleeve/fishnet stocking. Because of this very strong construction, relatively large spans could be used, limiting the number of columns. The viaduct segments are assembled on site from prefabricated steel rings and tubes. During the construction, they used a temporary assembly hall at the track. In a special conserveringshal (composed of sea containers), the bridge parts were provided with a protective coating.
