The Transamerica Pyramid is the highest and most recognizable skyscraper of San Francisco. The building has become one of the symbols of San Francisco. The shape of the building was chosen to minimize light incidence on the street. The wings that protrude on both sides start on the 29th floor. In the east wing there are the elevator shafts and in the west wing there are the stairwell and the ventilation shafts. The wings were needed because elevators could not tilt upwards at that time.
