U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III.
The McDonnell Douglas (acquired by Boeing in 1997) C-17 Globemaster III is a US strategic transport aircraft built by Boeing Integrated Defense Systems.
The C-17 Globemaster III is capable of transporting troops and supplies. The aircraft is large enough to transport, for example, a Chinook helicopter. It is also used for transporting wounded and for air drops, for example.
The C-17 takes its name from two previous heavy transport aircraft, the C-74 Globemaster and the C-124 Globemaster II.
Being a large aircraft, the C-17 needs a runway length of over 2,300 metres to take off and almost 1,100 metres to land.
