Two girls sit opposite each other on the terrace of the Urban Espresso Bar, West in Rotterdam. They talk in English and do not suspect they are being drawn in the meantime. They are probably foreign students. When I show them the drawing, they are pleasantly surprised. Indeed, they hadn't noticed anything.
I like to draw people in cafes, in the park and on the beach. Actually anywhere you can watch people, I take my sketchpad with me. I like to see how people look at each other and what kind of gestures they make. So sometimes people compare me to artists of the past, from Paris, who also liked to make studies of people.
That is how I do look at people. Out of interest and hoping to catch something of the moment.
The technique I use for my studies is fineliner and maker on paper. I don't use a pencil to draw lines first, but just start, often with a face.
For people who like graphic work or have an affinity with the city of Rotterdam, this is a nice work to have on your wall.
My work distinguishes itself by strong colours and clear shapes. I work with ecoline, ink and pencil, but I also like to cut and paste.
I get my inspiration from nature and like to daydream. Animals and people sometimes seem to melt together in these reveries.
