When is the Utrechtse Heuvelrug at its most beautiful.....? Every season has its charm, but autumn is dotted with its beautiful colour palette.
Climb the watchtower De Kaap for the best view over almost the entire area. From the Amerongse Berg in the east to the Dom Tower of Utrecht in the west. Weather permitting you can even see the Rhine in the south, flowing through the meadows like a shimmering ribbon.
Vereniging Natuurmonumenten had this wooden watchtower built in 2006 on a hill 40 metres high. The tower itself is over 25 metres high. High enough to overlook the forestation. A hundred years ago there was a tower here as well. There used to be many more vantage points on the Heuvelrug. Most of them have disappeared. The Cape stayed.
