About "Via Quadrani Pompili Paciano 1 Umbria"

About the artwork

This is the junction where via Quadrani Pompili in Paciano, Umbria, Italy, meets Via Marconi in a t-junction at the end. Via Marconi is one of the main arterial roads for the village (though note the streets are narrow and there is a one way system for driving). This picturesque street comprises a number of tightly packed stone wall buildings with various entrances and windows. It is a wonderful example of Italian lifestyle within these old medieval walled towns and villages, with most people living in apartments. The buildings are a mixture of red brick and stone build and you can see a several traditional arched doorways. There are traditional shutters on the windows, the ones on the building on the left are closed as the top of the building is in full sunshine. Hanging on the building on the left is a white and green contrada flag. During festivals Paciano splits into a number of traditional groups or contradas to compete against each other. This flag signifies the particular contrada for the street.
