The Sint Nicolaaskerk and Schreierstoren in central Amsterdam in black and white.
The Sint Nicolaaskerk, officially known as the Basilica of Saint Nicolas, opened its doors in 1887. This masterpiece has been a fixture in Amsterdam's cityscape for more than 135 years. Designed by architect Adrianus Bleijs, the church combines elements of different architectural styles, including neo-Baroque and neo-Renaissance. The result? A unique and impressive building that is wonderfully beautiful both inside and outThe Schreierstoren on the bottom left of the photo is a defence tower that used to be part of Amsterdam's city wall. Built around 1487 on the corner of the IJ and the east side of the city, it is Amsterdam's only surviving defence tower.
