This picturesque view from the small yet famous mountain village of Forza d'Agro to the coast of Sant'Alessio Siculo was taken on 29 October 2024 in the late evening hours, right at sunset.
The photographic landscape shot was taken with the NIKON D800 camera (lens: NIKKOR 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8).
The soft blue light with subtle pink accents in the cloud formation creates a harmonious, peaceful and calming atmosphere. The expansive view of the dreamlike Ionian Sea gives a feeling of freedom and confidence. The slightly dilapidated, weathered and abandoned houses in the foreground conjure up a nostalgic touch in the picture scene.
Forza d'Agrò looks like a balcony overlooking the Ionian Sea. From its vantage point, you can admire the coast from Messina to Syracuse with Taormina and Castelmola, the bay of Giardini-Naxos and the imposing mass of the Etna volcano.
In 1971, the historic centre of Forza d'Agrò (together with that of nearby Savoca) was chosen by Francis Ford Coppola as the backdrop for numerous scenes in the film "The Godfather".
