About ‘Walking @ the beach’ by Eddy Smets

The picture shows a quiet moment at the beach during the exact moment of low tide. The water is slowly receding, leaving the sand covered in pools that reflect in the soft light. The shapes in the sand, created by the movement of the water, are silent witnesses to the ebb - traces of waves retreating, leaving the landscape in a momentary transformation. These patterns, from small ditches to larger pools, give the beach a subtle structure and emphasise the transience of the moment.

On the horizon, where the sky and sea merge, a few walkers can be seen. They seem small and insignificant against the vastness of the landscape, but at the same time they add an element of human presence to the picture. Their silhouettes form a vivid contrast to the empty space of the beach, enhancing the sense of tranquillity and timelessness.

The atmosphere is serene and meditative; the photography captures the essence of the moment when the water recedes, the space recalls the changing rhythms of nature, and the human presence forms a poetic contrast against the pristine nature. The image is a perfect balance between the dynamic process of low tide and the calmness of the walkers, who at that moment are almost part of the landscape itself.
