About ‘What the light hides’ by Cecile Quenum

A dense tangle of trunks and branches, a calm chaos, a tangled world.
This image is the result of a direct superimposition during the shooting. Two moments, two framings, two layers of forest superimposed in a single breath. There is no editing, just a slow, searching gaze.
Yet the light shines through. It cuts through the branches like a heavy secret, creeping into the shadows and creating invisible openings.
This photograph was taken during a solitary walk. The body moves forward, but the eye stops, hangs on, gets lost.
The black and white accentuates the complexity of the scene, without freezing it. The atmosphere is dense, almost organic, but the chiaroscuro infuses it with a vibrant tension.
This image speaks of what is hidden in the light. Things we can see better when we stop trying to understand them.
In an interior, it creates a vegetal presence, a quiet mystery. It appeals to those who like to lose themselves in order to find themselves again.

I'm a Belgian-Beninese photographer who captures the relationship between the body, light and presence. I work alone on my walks, or while observing my quoitiden, but also in collaboration with models, make-up artists and other artists.

My aim is to capture the things that usually escape the eye - a silence, a shiver, a spark, a beauty, a light created or fragile. Each photograph bears witness to an emotion or a suspended moment.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
