Where the forest is disappearing by ReBlick

A wooded mountainside rises out of the darkness and gradually fades into the mist. Individual spruce trees remain clearly visible, whilst others appear only as silhouettes and eventually blend completely into the bright atmosphere.

In situations like this, I am less interested in the mountains as a subject than in the way the landscape is transformed by the conditions. Fog softens contours, separates planes from one another and, for a brief moment, determines what remains visible. It was precisely the individual trees on the boundary between the forest and the fog that captivated me here.

The photograph thrives on this transition. At the bottom, the dark forest forms a compact expanse; above it, its structures gradually dissolve. The rising line of the mountainside simultaneously lends the tranquil scene a clear direction and a sense of tension.

Due to the greatly reduced colour palette, the photograph appears almost monochrome. Dark green, grey and the light patches of mist dominate the image. As a wall hanging, this creates a calm, understated presence that harmonises particularly well with natural materials and minimalist interiors. Despite the dark forest area, the generous light area ensures there is sufficient lightness in the image.
