Between Light and Mist

by ReBlick

Mist drifts through the mountainous landscape, altering within a matter of moments what remains visible and what vanishes. The wooded slope lies largely in shadow, whilst the light reveals individual patches on the upper part of the hillside. In between, the pale mist moves through the space as if it were a separate plane.

It is precisely these changing conditions that interest me in my landscape photography. It is not just the location or the subject that determines an image, but that fleeting moment when light, weather and landscape combine to create something that may look completely different just a few minutes later.

In this photograph, it was the contrast in particular that captivated me: the dense, dark expanse of woodland, the fog that seems almost tangible, and above it, the warm light on the hillside. The landscape is not shown in its entirety. Part of it remains hidden – and it is precisely this that creates depth.

As a wall hanging, the photograph has a calm yet striking presence. The muted colour palette of grey, dark green and warm earth tones blends particularly well into natural, understated interiors without losing its individual character.
