This photo of the iconic Willemsbrug in Rotterdam was captured on a crisp clear day, when I had just got my camera and went into town to learn photography. From the road surface, I captured the impressive lines of the bridge the steel cables elegantly reaching up to the red pylons create a powerful composition of shape, colour and perspective. The clear blue sky contrasts beautifully with the deep red steel, giving the image an energetic and modern feel.
This photograph shows not only the architectural beauty of the bridge, but also the sense of discovery and wonder that comes with learning to see through the lens. It is an ode to Rotterdam: strong, colourful and full of character. Perfect as wall decoration for lovers of urban photography, modern architecture or the city itself.
