About ‘Winter in Wolfheze - Follow the stream - Veluwe, Netherlands’ by Wandeldingen

Wolfheze is a mysterious place where time seems to stand still. People and animals have lived here for 12 centuries and there are trees older than five hundred years. Four babbling brooks provide a fairytale feeling. My first acquaintance with this area was during the summer of 2022, when the moors turned purple and the forest was green. Now, during the misty days in the forest and the frost covering the heathland, I discover the mysterious side of Wolfheze.

Like the Speulder and Sprielder forest, the Wolfhezer forest is also full of history. The landscape is home to some 20 burial mounds that bear witness to ancient habitation. Painters from the Oosterbeek School captured the unique woods in the 19th century. The thousand-year-old pine and the mysterious Vodan's oaks are often the subject of their paintings.

On a cold winter morning, I took a circular walk across Wolfheze. Through a quiet landscape with a layer of frost, I explored the moors and ancient forests.
