When I was 9, I went to the Zaanse Schans for the first time. My grandfather and grandmother were married for 50 years and we went with the whole family by bus from Rotterdam to the Zaanse Schans. My grandfather, he loved mill. With his thick fingers, he made mill and accessories of thin wooden slats. I'll see him still.
Anyway, we went to the Zaanse Schans because Grandpa had something with mills. When I was 9, it seemed infinitely large.
Now that I'm big, moved to Noord-Holland and it's only half an hour to drive to the Zaanse Schans, I like to capture the mills in a different way: take pictures. I'm wondering what the old man would think about that. Although .. with looking at holiday pictures he always fell asleep :)
In this picture, which I made during the golden hour, I had to be patient. On the left side was a huge cloud before the sun. And of course, I wanted the sun to shine its golden glow on the mills and the bench. But my patience was rewarded and delivered this beautiful picture.
