While travelling through the vast savannah of Namibia, I repeatedly encountered moments of silence - and encounters. This one was special. A small herd of zebra suddenly stood in front of me in the golden morning light. Their calm, watchful behaviour, the play of light on their striped fur, the soft crackling of the dry grass - it all made for an almost meditative scene.
Zebras are among the most fascinating inhabitants of Africa. Their characteristic black and white stripes are not only beautiful to look at, but also serve as camouflage, a means of communication and protection against insects. Each zebra has a unique stripe pattern - like a fingerprint in the wild. The animals seemed very relaxed at this moment, almost as if they had decided to give me an insight into their lives.
I was very lucky to be able to capture this scene undisturbed. The warm colours of the landscape underline the peaceful atmosphere - and make the photo an ideal nature motif for walls in the living or working area. This picture is particularly effective in landscape format.
I have always enjoyed photography. Even when I was young, I took photos with the Beirette. It even happened to me once that I inserted a film twice ... and the photos I took were very interesting.
