My adaptation of the still life with flowers in a vase, painted around 1850 by Dutch painter Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os.
A combination of flowers such as carnations, violets and dahlias in a glass vase.
In my adaptation, the vase with flowers is in an antique wooden "shadow box", a three-dimensional, deep frame.
By adding shadows, the still life has become a trompe-l'oeil. This is an art technique in which a painting or other work of art is depicted in such a way that it gives the illusion of being a three-dimensional object or a real scene. The word is French for "deceives the eye" or "trick of sight".
The stylists at Art Heroes call my art style ‘Art with a Wink’. And I couldn't agree more. Life is serious enough as it is, don't you think? ;-)
