During severe frosts when food is scarce, birds are forced to forage more intensively. Due to the scarcity of food, the birds are therefore slightly less shy than during spring or summer, for example. For a nature photographer, this offers a unique opportunity to get just that metre closer to capture the details. So on a freezing cold, windless morning, I captured this image of the bearded reedling. The bird exuded an intense focus, driven to get food. Looking closely at the scene, you can still see the frost on the tail, a reminder of this cold morning.
For me, this moment means not only taking a good photo. But also witnessing nature in rigorous drive and the resilience of the birds.
