About ‘cut-out flower’ by Joan Engels

Cut-out art is an art form in which figures or patterns are cut out of materials such as paper, cardboard or canvas to form compositions. It ranges from traditional folk art to Henri Matisse's famous modern ' "tekenen met een schaar" ' technique.

This is a typical example of 'less is more'. A beautiful, clean, calm division of space that also has a 3D-like spatiality.
The calm colours and graphic effect make the artwork a beautiful eye-catcher in most clean interiors.
The colour tone is beige-brown with very subtle nuances.

I start almost all my works manually with a sketch and in this case I
then drew over it digitally using vectors.
This artwork is therefore largely 'painted' digitally.
All images are digitally edited for reproduction by Werk aan de muur.

Art should surprise and inspire, and for me, creating art is not work but the oxygen I live for.

Joan Engels is an artist but has also worked for 30 years as an illustrator/graphic designer for various publishers.
I am more picture maker and less talk maker
And where some like to read or write for relaxation I draw or paint....
I make a lot of commercial illustrations for my work but in my spare time, I enjoy creating real art more.
In my painting style, I like to choose evocative multi-colour use of colour and whimsical or just stylised lines.
