About "202. Our kitchen"

by Domstad Rudie

About the artwork

"Our Kitchen" is a digital artwork that poetically captures the intimacy and precision of everyday cooking. The composition shows a detailed cutout of a kitchen scene, with the background being formed by cool blue wall tiles that evoke a sense of calm and order. Against this wall hangs a metal magnetic strip on which seven knives are arranged with care and symmetry. The variety of blades suggests a love of cooking, with the robust knife labelled "Sabatier" serving as a showpiece. This name refers to the renowned French knife brand and betrays the user's dedication to their culinary craft.

To the left of the picture, part of a light switch is subtly visible - an everyday detail that underlines the homely nature of the scene. Below it stretches a natural stone worktop, cool and heavy-looking, with a tactile texture that almost transcends the digital medium. On the countertop is a pile of sliced potatoes, already cooked and ready to be fried. The combination of their golden yellow insides and jagged, earthy shapes evokes an almost sensory expectation of warmth, aroma and flavour. The description "a tipping cart kruum" - a Groningen expression - lends a personal, regional connotation to the work, as if the kitchen itself stores stories.

This digital artwork combines precision with warmth, and ordinariness with loving attention. It invites the viewer to reflect on the ritual of cooking as a form of care, tradition and self-expression.
