About "287. Memory in Two Colours"

About the artwork

This digital artwork shows a white classic car, a small car that seems to have been driven away from another time, set against a brightly contrasting background of blue and red. The simplicity of the composition, the lack of realistic surroundings, lifts the car out of reality and makes it a symbol.

The car itself, with its round shapes and shiny surface, speaks of a time when mobility was new, when travel was not only functional but also held a promise of freedom and adventure. It almost seems to float, detached from gravity, as if it were memory rather than matter. The license plate and headlights are tangible anchor points, but the context is missing: no street, no horizon, just fields of colour that collide and harmonise at the same time.

The red below the car breathes earth, warmth, perhaps also danger; the blue above it stands for air, freedom, an open future. Together, they form a field of tension in which the vehicle balances: between past and future, between memory and desire.

The digital processing - visible in the painterly texture and almost cartoonish finish - emphasises that this is not a documentary image, but an interpretation. The artist seems to be asking: what do we preserve from the past, and how do we colour it with our own projections?

The artwork thus captures the paradox of nostalgia: we see a car, but actually we see ourselves - our memories, our dreams, our way through time.
