The black-tailed godwit is the icon of Holland's peat meadows, its main breeding ground. Nowhere in Europe do as many black-tailed godwits breed as in the Netherlands.
In 2015, the black-tailed godwit was chosen by the Dutch public as a national bird. It is a large, slender stilt-walker with long legs and a straight beak. The bird combined with in the background the church tower of Bunschoten-Spakenburg makes this picture look very pretty.
