A girl with flowers in the grass, Jacob Maris, 1878 black chalk, brush in colours in watercolour, h 391mm × w 261mm.
A girl in white, seen from the side, sits in the grass with a bouquet of field flowers. The blue of the flowers is repeated in her hair bow and shoes. A daughter of Maris probably modelled this idyllic scene. The mood and painting style are reminiscent of the work of 19th-century French impressionists such as Claude Monet and deviates from Maris' usually grey palette.
