About ‘Agra: Taj Mahal’ by Maarten Verhees

De Taj Mahal is een imposant, wit marmeren mausoleum in Agra (Uttar Pradesh). Shah Jahan, de vijfde heerser van het Mogolrijk, liet het grafmonument tussen 1632 en 1648 bouwen als laatste rustplaats voor zijn geliefde echtgenote Mumtaz Mahal, die in 1631 in het kraambed was overleden. Na de dood van Shah Jahan werden ook diens resten bijgezet in de tombe.De Mogoldynastie had de gewoonte om voor haar leden grafmonumenten in symmetrisch aangelegde tuinen te bouwen. Tuinen staan in de islamitische traditie symbool voor het paradijs en de Mogols poogden voor hun overledenen een hemelse woonplaats op aarde te scheppen. De grootschaligheid en esthetische verfijning van deze bouwwerken diende tevens de luister van hun heerschappij te onderstrepen. Een eerste hoogtepunt in deze traditie was Humayuns tombe in Delhi, in de jaren 1560 gebouwd door Akbar.De Taj Mahal staat niet zoals gebruikelijk in het midden van de tuin, maar op een verhoogd platform aan de oever van de Yamuna-rivier in Agra en domineert zo de wijde omgeving. Vier vrijstaande minaretten bezetten de hoeken van het platform en geven het bouwwerk een driedimensionale referentie. De Taj Mahal wordt geflankeerd door twee identieke - in contrasterend rood zandsteen opgetrokken - gebouwen, de moskee en het gastenverblijf. Tussen het mausoleum en de hoofdpoort van het complex ligt de tuin, die door kanalen in vier gelijke perken verdeeld is volgens het Perzische chahar bagh-patroon.Het mausoleum wordt geroemd om de volmaakt ui

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
