Amphibious transport ship Zr.Ms. Rotterdam.
Registration: L800
The Zr.Ms. Rotterdam is an amphibious transport ship of the Royal Netherlands Navy and was commissioned in 1998. The ship was built by Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding.
The ship has a large internal dock with space for 4 large or 6 small landing craft. The ship can lower about 4 metres into the water, flooding the dock floor. From the vehicle deck, vehicles, personnel and equipment can be put onto the landing craft. Landing craft can then leave the dock at the rear.
The Zr.Ms. Rotterdam can board, transport and disembark an entire marine battalion (over 600 personnel). Almost any type of military vehicle can be transported, even a Leopard 2 tank. The ship has a supply room to support a landing operation for at least 10 days.
Furthermore, the ship has a helicopter deck, a hangar with capacity of 4 to 6 helicopters and facilities for conducting air traffic.
Also on board is a fully equipped hospital (class 2), a 10-bed operating theatre and intensive care unit. During missions, a surgical team can be permanently placed on board.
