Pillars by the sea, the Apollo Temple in the Turkish coastal town of Side. Here, history is still being unearthed every day. Since 1947, archaeologists have been working to uncover a city from Roman times. One of the most striking remains is the Apollos temple, built in the 2nd century AD and dedicated to the sun god.
Five marble columns overlook the sea.
The place makes a deep impression through antiquity. Everything here recalls what once was: an amphitheatre, bathhouses, mosaics. What was under the sand for centuries is coming back up layer by layer.
Side today is a lively seaside resort. But those who walk here feel what lies beneath. Not just stone and dust, but stories. It is definitely a memorable place.
