Walking through a mud town. In the Diriyah district on the outskirts of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. All the buildings look new and cared for. Tight walls of clay, painted a peachy colour. The doors giving access to the mud buildings are wooden and painted with different symbols. A lantern often hangs above the door. The streets are wide and clean. The streets swarm through the district. It all looks very clean. The architecture of the mud buildings reminds me of desert towns you have everywhere in the Middle East. Every now and then I see a tree. That's nice shelter from the heat and sun. Diriyah has just been renovated and is open to tourists. It is worth going there to enjoy the beauty of a new district that is actually very old. Modern-day Saudi Arabia has its origins in Diriyah.
