About the artwork
One of the first works Ma-art-je created with a mix of materials and gold paint was Autumn. The work brought Ma-art-je inspiration for new works and not long afterwards her first exhibition, which took place in Emmeloord in 2010.
Inspiration & message
Ma-art-je created Autumn intuitively. She always works without a preconceived plan, but from a feeling. She never knows what a work will eventually look like, but follows her feelings and lets the process unfold. The feeling she had when making Autumn was being safe inside while autumn storms raged outside. The softness of sitting safely in a warm house, fully equipped, while outside Mother Nature blows away all the old.
Special technique
Autumn is made with clay, poppy seeds, pumpkin seeds, ginger powder, turmeric and gold paint. Normally, Ma-art-je works with water colours and acrylics, but for these works she went in search of other materials.
