The High Fens in Belgium, a vast nature reserve made up of forests, streams and vast swampy flats, where it is still easy to get lost, especially in bad weather conditions.
This photo was taken on one of the higher parts of the High Fens, near Baraque Michel, and is how I prefer to see the High Fens. Vast, misty and mysterious, with wooden paths to keep feet dry and not get lost.
With an average of 200 days with fog during a year, a good number of snow days and temperatures that are generally lower than in the rest of Belgium, it doesn't sound very inviting but the nature there is beautiful and rugged, and the autumn colours in the deciduous forests are of an intensity that I haven't often seen elsewhere.
