About ‘Between glass and shadow’ by Arthur Batenburg

A fine example of tranquillity, rhythm and simplicity. The light-grey façade provides a minimalist backdrop against which the four distinctive windows and the lamppost together form an almost graphic composition.

The windows, with their dark metal frames and blue-green panes, add colour and texture. They appear almost like mirror images of one another, yet the subtle differences in light and reflection give each window its own distinct character.

At the centre of the image stands the slender lamppost, whose long blue shadow falls sharply across the façade. It is precisely this shadow that lends the photograph extra depth and hints at the bright sunlight. The large empty spaces surrounding the elements enhance the sense of space and serenity. A understated architectural photograph in which symmetry, light, shadow and colour take centre stage — simple in subject matter, yet powerful in its composition.
