In my artwork "Bismarck Statue at the Star", the monumental figure of Otto von Bismarck stands in the centre - framed by the characteristic urban backdrop around Hamburg's "Star". The statue appears both sublime and remote, while light and shadow subtly emphasise the contours. The perspective is deliberately chosen: slightly from below to emphasise the historical significance, but with a modern, almost graphic view of the surroundings.
The inspiration for this work came to me during an evening stroll through Hamburg. I was fascinated by the mixture of history, urban movement and the silent presence of the monument. I wanted to capture this moment of timelessness - a pause in the flow of the city.
The atmosphere is calm, almost contemplative. I'm not interested in pathos, but in reflection: what does remembrance mean in public space? What role does history play in our everyday lives?
This work conveys a sense of permanence and thoughtfulness. It invites us to take a closer look - not only at the motif, but also at our own relationship to history.
In an interior, the picture acts as a cultural anchor point. It combines classic elements with contemporary aesthetics, creating an exciting contrast - ideal for rooms that need to radiate character and depth.
