About the artwork
Photograph in black and white of a group of elephants drinking at a pond.
Of three elephants, their heads can be clearly seen. They are standing next to each other and enter the picture from the right, the front one only showing the head and a front leg, the rear one further forward and therefore also clearly visible.
You can tell by the legs that there are more elephants. Between them a small trunk is also visible.
All elephants have tusks and use their trunks to suck up water and spray it into their mouths. This involves a lot of splashing and dripping. They stand halfway up their legs in water.
The photo is taken quite close and you can see only a little of the background: a dam wall overgrown with grass. The photo ends slightly below the top of their heads, so they are not quite there. The focus is really on the drinking, the trunks and tusks and all the water splashing around.
I took the photo in South Africa, in Timbavati, which is part of The Greater Kruger.
