The black-billed toucan (Ramphastos ambiguus) is a bird in the family Ramphastidae (toucans). This species occurs from southeastern Honduras to western Ecuador and from western Venezuela to central Peru. The population size has not been quantified. In 1996, the species was still described as quite common, but it is believed that since then its numbers have declined sharply due to habitat loss. We saw this spectacular bird at several sites in Costa Rica.
