Two figures stand side by side, their faces completely hidden under a cloud of blue balloons. They look out over a still, blue sea. They look alike, perhaps even the same, and yet you sense something lonely in the way they stand there. As if they are together, but also completely on their own.
This image came to me out of the blue - as it often does. I see something before me, without immediately knowing what exactly it means. And I don't need to. For me, it is not about everything telling a clear story. Instead, I like images that twist a little, that make you laugh but also raise a question. Is this funny? Moving? Strange? Or all at once?
In my work, I often seek the boundary between the everyday and the absurd. I play with forms, situations and combinations that at first glance seem light-hearted, but on closer inspection may tell us something about ourselves. About how we make contact, or not. About how we hide behind masks, ideas or - in this case - balloons.
I am an image-maker with a head full of stories and a heart for the surreal. For me, images arise from within - sometimes clear, sometimes foggy, but always charged with feeling.
