Box - Inner box | Poster Typografie by MadameRuiz

My little son came home from school today with a really funny wordplay. He held out his hand in a fist and said ‘BOX’. When I tried to ‘box’ him back, he feinted downwards and said ‘UNDERBOX’. I thought it was so funny that I turned it into a cheeky poster. It’s now been given the thumbs-up by my little boy. What do you think? Nice?

A funny, comical departure from my other artworks.

Box-Onderbox is a humorous and bold typographic poster by MadameRuiz, combining a pun, a sporty style and retro design. The piece plays on the double meaning of ‘box’: a powerful clenched fist at the top and a pair of underpants at the bottom. Together, they form a striking, graphic poster with a touch of humour.

The composition is structured like a vintage sports emblem, featuring large block letters, strong contrasts and simple symbols. The clenched fist lends the piece energy and power, whilst the underpants lend the whole design a light-hearted and humorous touch. The combination of deep burgundy, warm ochre yellow, cream and golden-brown accents gives the poster a retro feel reminiscent of old sports posters, comic-book style and classic advertising imagery.

This piece is not meant to take itself too seriously. It is precisely the combination of bold lettering and a dry pun that makes ‘Box-Onderbox’ suitable for interiors with character and humour. Think of a loo, hall, children’s bedroom, teenager’s bedroom, man cave, gym, boxing gym, changing room, student room or creative workspace.

The poster fits well in a playful, retro, graphic, industrial or eclectic interior. This piece also makes a great gift for anyone with an appreciation for language, Brabant humour, boxing, sport or simply a good visual joke.

Anyone looking for a funny poster, a retro sports poster, typographic wall art, a boxing poster, humour on the wall or an original poster with a pun will find Box-Onderbox to be an eye-catching and quirky work of art.
