A location such as an abandoned village in the Spanish countryside contains a variety of material for my current photo project.
The characteristic traces of decay are, destruction by the elements, vandalism, graffiti, rubble, masonry and presence of animals. For instance, the ruins of the village of Claravalls sometimes shelter the sheep of a local shepherd. Doors and windows were bricked up for this purpose with materials found on site. Photographically, the combination of different materials and textures is very interesting. In my search for the right composition, I think mainly graphically and forget the subject. The close-up provides abstraction.
Yet I do not consider my work purely abstract, there is still recognition, especially of texture.
This work especially comes into its own in a minimalist interior , on its own, but can also be perfectly combined with other works from the EXPO92 gallery and form part of a diptych or triptych.
