About "Colorful Sunset by the Sea with sand waves in the foreground"

by Jan Hermsen

About the artwork

The sunset on the sea was shot on the beach Wassenaarseslag during the golden hour. The golden hour, also known as magic hour, is a term from the photograph, indicating the short period after sunrise or before sunset, where there is more indirect sunlight, making it slightly more red and softer. Because the sun is on the horizon, the light goes a longer distance through the atmosphere. The blue light is thus more scattered, making the red light relatively longer exists.

The term hour does not mean that this really takes sixty minutes. The effect is anyway less time for places closer to the equator, because the sun there rises faster. In theory, the golden hour above the Arctic Circle can last all day. As a rule of thumb is usually called "the first and the last hour of the day" is made [2]. Another definition is the period when the sun above the horizon is less than six degrees. This photo of a sunset actually consists of five photos that you call an HDR photo. The technique that allows multiple photos of the same scene with different exposures you call bracketing. Such a picture of the sunset while maintaining an hour can only be made with a tripod.
