Deepwater construction vessel the Balder of Heerema.
The Balder is a deep water construction vessel (DVC), owned by Heerema Marine Contractors of Leiden. It was built in 1978 by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding in Japan as a semi-submersible crane vessel. In 2001 it was converted to DCV by Verolme Botlek BV.
The Balder is named after the Norse ash god Balder. Balder is the brother of Hermod. Hermod is also the name of the sister ship of the Balder. However, this ship was taken out of service a few years ago and scrapped in China.
