During my city break in Málaga, Spain, I came across many of these magnificent doors and other Moorish architecture. This architectural style is originally from the East and it shows. With its round shapes and beautiful bright colours, I find it fairy-tale or even Disney-like. I like the combination of the red and yellow with the contrasting blue and green best in this picture, it gives the picture just a little more punch.
I really enjoy photographing old buildings and elements during my travels it is all the more fun to know what you are photographing and learn more about the ancient cultures that once built them. The Moorish architectural style in Málaga, as in many parts of Andalusia, reflects the influence of Islamic culture and architecture that lasted for eight centuries of rule over the Iberian Peninsula. This style is characterised by patterns, mosaics, decorative tiling, horseshoe-shaped doors and windows, beautiful colours many courtyards with many plants.
The Costa del Sol in Spain has so much more to offer than just beaches, the cities and inland areas have stolen my heart. It is the perfect place for travel photography.
This work with its cheerful colours would look great in a modern or Mediterranean living room or bedroom. It would also do very well as a work of art outside in the garden to bring the Spanish feeling into your home a little.
