About the artwork

When you are at the beach, searching for shells is always a nice thing to do. It is super relaxing and if you find an unusual or beautiful specimen, it is a great gift!
You will find many cockles (Cerastoderma edule) on Dutch beaches. These shells are also called heart shells and they come in different shades and different sizes. Sometimes you'll find a double specimen with the top and bottom shell also attached to each other.
And when you take a good look at such a shell, you realise that it really is a work of art by nature. Wonderful how the model is and how the structure of the shell is: beautiful wavy lines fanning out across the shell and continuing in a regular pattern. Always clever how a tiny mollusc can create something so beautiful!
A beautiful shell deserves to be beautifully captured. I photographed this double cockle shell leaning on another cockle shell. The warm light from the left shines beautifully through the shell and reappears through the jagged opening at the front. The water droplets surrounding the shells create an enchanted and fairy-like atmosphere with beautiful bokeh spheres.
Finally, I set the photo in warm retro colours to further enhance the special atmosphere.
