Dough is the unbaked base product for various breads and pastries. The basic ingredients of dough are flour and water (or other liquids such as milk, fruit juice). This is supplemented with raising agents (yeast, baking powder, egg...) and flavorings such as sugar and salt. Dough is usually malleable, but always thick in consistency; liquid doughs are called batter. Dough must be kneaded or stirred to mix the ingredients and ensure an airy structure of the pastry.
