About ‘Ecuador: Vulkaan (Chimborazo)’ by Maarten Verhees

Chimborazo is een momenteel inactieve stratovulkaan in het Cordillera Occidental-bereik van de Andes. De laatst bekende uitbarsting wordt verondersteld te hebben plaatsgevonden rond 550 C.E.Met een piekhoogte van 6.263 m (20.548 ft) is Chimborazo de hoogste berg in Ecuador. Het is de hoogste piek nabij de evenaar. Chimborazo is niet de hoogste berg op een hoogte boven zeeniveau, maar de ligging langs de equatoriale uitstulping maakt de top het verste punt op het aardoppervlak vanaf het middelpunt van de aarde.
